Sometimes after a long week of work you just want to escape for a couple days. We know that feeling and want to help you find the perfect getaway location. You won’t have to look far, in West Virginia, when it comes to finding the perfect escape. Here are some of our top locations to relax in West Virginia!
Summersville Lake Retreat
Great for a quick fishing, swimming, and outdoor barbecue trip. This park is close to the Appalachian Mountains and the New River Gorge National River (great for whitewater rafting). The park has pull-thrus for any size RV. You can also get free, hot showers in their restrooms. There is also a playground, horseshoes, croquet, bocce ball, and picnic areas for the family.
Pipestem Resort State Park
Anything and everything is available here. This park offers fantastic views and has activities for every age. You can hike any of their 20 trails, bike all over the park, join one of their many programs, enjoy horseback riding, swim in their olympic size pool, or even golf/disc golf. There are also restrooms and a camping store for anyone who may have forgotten something. This is a fantastic location for anyone who needs a vacation.
A luxurious camping resort in the mountains. There is a heated pool, fitness center, and water activity rentals available for anyone who gets the resort pass. There are five different lakes where you can boat, fish, and swim. There is also a golf course, spa, and fine dining for anyone who needs to unwind in a high class fashion.
Pegasus Farm Campground
A place of peace and quiet, gorgeous flowers, and beautiful nature. This is a nice place to walk the trail and just enjoy the beauty of nature. There is plenty of stuff to visit nearby for a day and begs to be explored more than once. They also offer large sites with free wifi for anyone who may need it, a shower house for someone who needs a long soak, and a dump station for garbage disposal. This is a great, relaxing getaway.
Gerald Freeman COE Campground
This is a quaint, little stop for fishing and relaxation. It is about 17 miles away from the interstate. Gerald Freeman Campground offers a nice playground, some great spots to picnic, and very friendly staff. It also has clean restrooms and showers for anyone who needs them.
West Virginia is a beautiful state to adventure around and there are dozens of other parks that we could recommend. These, however, stood out to us and they are a wonderful locations to just sit back, take a break, and enjoy your weekend.
